Let My Love Open The Door

This song was originally written and performed by Pete Townshend of The Who in 1980. It was released as the debut single from his album Empty Glass. It reached #9 in the U.S.

I love the melodies in this song. The original was done at a breakneck tempo of 170 bpm. It features Pete’s signature synth sequences, guitar, bass, drums and nice vocals.

In researching this song, I discovered that Pete also did a slower version known as the E. Cola Mix – 75 bpm (more accurately half-time 150 bpm) and more ethereal. This version was used in the film Grosse Pointe Blank as well as other television shows and films.

My version is more of a mid-tempo ballad. I love the way it works like this. A great song is a great song!

Lyrics

When people keep repeating
That you’ll never fall in love
When everybody keeps retreating
But you can’t seem to get enough

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

When everything feels all over
Everybody seems unkind
I’ll give you a four-leaf clover
Take all worry out of your mind

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

I’ve got the only key to your heart
I can stop you falling apart
Try today you’ll find this way
Come on and give me a chance to say

Let my love open the door
It’s all I’m living for
Release yourself from misery
There’s only one thing gonna set you free

Let my love …
Let my love …
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door

When tragedy befalls you
Don’t let it drag you down
Love can cure your problems
You’re so lucky I’m around

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart
